The first shipment of Paraguayan kakis to Europe has already arrived in Spain after the firm Frutas del Paraguay S.A. sent a total of 250,000 kilos of the fruit to the European market.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG), Paraguay has nearly 80 hectares of kaki and its production currently employs more than 100 people, mainly women who carry out the selection and packaging tasks.
The goal, according to the Ministry, is to achieve a production of 2 to 3 million kilos in two years, reaching about 100 hectares of cultivation.
Kaki is a crop that is harvested once a year and a properly managed crop can easily give good yields for more than ten years. It is well known for its high nutritional value, fiber, vitamin, and mineral content, the Agricultural portfolio stated.
