Potato Market Update 28th February

'Very little planting progress in the UK'

Stocks continue to tighten, with a lot more growers now finished, with stores empty compared to this time last year. There are continued reports of large amounts of clay in boxes due to harvest conditions which is reducing the saleable yield. As stock are tightening there is upward price pressure.

Across Europe, physical prices for processing have again shown increases. Exporters note some recent interest from Eastern Europe, but buyers are backing off at the high prices. There has been very little planting progress in the UK and programmes are now falling behind schedule.
