In a significant development for regional trade, Pakistani oranges have been successfully transported to Russia, marking a crucial milestone. The endeavor was spearheaded by the National Logistics Cell, which dispatched 16 trucks laden with the kinnow variety of oranges from Sargodha, Punjab, traversing over 6,000 kilometers to reach Russian cities.
Specifically, fourteen trucks arrived in Derbent while the remaining two reached Grozny. A reception ceremony, attended by representatives from the transport union, Russian customs, and the Pakistani embassy, was held to celebrate the arrival of the trucks.
This operation not only demonstrates Pakistan's capability to access international markets via road but also addresses the challenge of preserving agricultural produce. With nearly 40% of agricultural goods at risk of spoilage due to inadequate cold storage facilities, the use of reefer services during this journey ensured the kinnow oranges remained fresh, highlighting a viable solution for long-distance transportation of perishable items.
