Emergency permit granted in ToBRFV battle

It has been announced that Huwa-San TR-50 has received an important emergency permit for the control of the Tomato Brown Rugose Fruit Virus (ToBRFV) in Belgium. This temporary permit, valid from 13 November 2024 to 12 March 2025, enables the Flemish tomato sector to use Huwa-San against this threat. However, this is not the only country worldwide that uses Huwa-San in the battle against ToBRFV. In New Zealand, a permanent permit has already been secured for controlling ToBRFV.

ToBRFV poses a serious threat to tomato cultivation worldwide. Since its first European detection in late 2018, the virus has been spreading at lightning speed. Once a ToBRFV infection develops in a plant, there is no cure. This demonstrates the urgent need for effective preventive measures and solutions.

Currently, ToBRFV classifies as a pathogen with a quarantine status, but it is expected that this may be revised to an RNQP status (Regulated Non-Quarantine Pathogen) by early 2025.

Huwa-San TR-50 In the fight against ToBRFV
Since it's very hard to control ToBRFV, the focus has shifted to prevention within greenhouses. Given how easily ToBRFV can be introduced, a comprehensive biosecurity plan is crucial for effective prevention.

Huwa-San TR-50, based on hydrogen peroxide, plays a crucial role as a sustainable solution. After use, Huwa-San TR-50 breaks down into water and oxygen, leaving no harmful residues. The disinfection of water using 1% Huwa-San TR-50 with a reaction time of 24 hours effectively eliminates ToBRFV. As a result, disinfecting the irrigation system with Huwa-San TR-50 during crop rotation has become a crucial component in the ongoing battle against ToBRFV.

All current emergency authorizations can be found on Fytoweb. Thanks to the emergency authorization of Huwa-San TR-50, Roam Technology takes an important step in protecting the Belgian tomato sector against this threat.
