The season of Italian pomegranates sold under the Lome Super Fruit brand is going well. The produce has been harvested and incoming volumes are up and amount to 7,100 tonnes, compared to the initial estimate of 5,000 tonnes (3,500 tonnes were harvested in 2023).
Dario De Lisi, sales manager of the Apulian company Masseria Fruttirossi, says that "we have processed and marketed over 50 % of the harvested product so far. Our 9 controlled-atmosphere units have not been opened yet: they contain over 2,200 tonnes of fruit, which will allow us to easily cover the months of January and February. We will open the first units in a few days' time. The pace is steady, but the commercial trend will sharply accelerate as early as next week. The demand for pomegranates tends in fact to triple in the run-up to Christmas."
The manager informs that 60 pallets of pomegranates are currently shipped for national and European supermarkets every day. "The produce of Italian origin is about to run out, so we will soon be among the few European players able to guarantee constant supplies in a very interesting period of commercial vacuum. Over the past few weeks, we have been receiving requests for large volumes mainly from Great Britain (3 trucks per week) and Germany (2 trucks per week), but demand from Swiss and French operators is also good. We have larger quantities available thanks to the entry into production of new orchards. This allows us to satisfy and retain the main buyers, and to avoid closing the season in advance. If they choose us, it is because we are able to ensure adequate quantities and quality from the beginning of September until the end of February."
For the fourth year in a row, the company is offering its Christmas box containing a Magnum pomegranate, i.e. weighing no less than 850 g, to its various retail customers. The box measures 13x13.5 cm, comes in two colours, and can be used as a table decoration or a Christmas ornament.
