Coop dispenses with plastic packaging for organic fruit and vegetables

Bio-apples or organic cucumbers wrapped in plastic are soon to be a thing of the past at Coop - thanks in part to the consumers. But not all organic fruits will be unpackaged, because the retail trade can not work without plastics yet.

For certain vegetables such as leek or celery, at least one form of container will be needed, reports 20min.ch. Some other fruits and vegetables also will still need packaging because of the handling. Accordingly, berries or Brussels sprouts are still sold packaged. Wherever possible, the retailer wants to switch from plastic to alternatives such as grass-paper or cellulose.
