Dom Tropical Avocado from Dominican Republic

The Dominican avocado will be sold in the US market under its own collective export brand

The Dominican Association of Exporters (ADOEXPO) received on Wednesday, February 24, from the National Office of Industrial Property (ONAPI) the certificate of registration of the first collective trademark with which this agricultural product will be marketed in the western zone of the United States: 'Dom Tropical Avocado from Dominican Republic'.

There is a significant consumption of the Dominican avocado in the western area of the US. Last year, the country's avocado exports to that region amounted to $30,490,425, said the president of Adoexpo, Elizabeth Mena.

Agroindustria Ocoeña, AMR Agro, Exportadora Tavárez, and Grupo 33 are the first 4 Dominican companies that will use this collective brand, which will support the production of this fruit and promote its nutritional properties, Mena said.

Adoexpo is working to carry out actions and strengthen this collective brand via an agreement with the Exporta Calidad Program (PEC), financed by the United States Department of Agriculture, and executed by the non-profit organization International Executive Service Corps (IESC).

This program will promote this collective brand in the United States participating in fairs, carrying out tastings, and promotion on digital platforms, among other activities, said the head of Adoexpo.

Avocado is one of the Dominican Republic's main agricultural export products. According to data from the Ministry of Agriculture, in 2019 the country shipped 44,980 tons for $61,415,732.38. The United States was its main destination.

The Dominican Republic exported 16,702 tons of avocado for $24,124,059 between January and March 2020.
