Sharp decline in potato imports to Georgia in 2024

In 2024, Georgia experienced a significant decrease in potato imports compared to the previous year. According to GeoStat, from January to August of this year, a total of 6,351 tons of potatoes were imported, down from 22,161 tons during the same period in 2023. The total value of potato imports for this period was $2,369,590, a substantial drop from the $7,466,260 recorded in the previous year.

The top five countries supplying potatoes to Georgia in 2024 include:

  • Russia – $459,000, 1,736 tons
  • Azerbaijan – $441,800, 1,662 tons
  • Armenia – $433,830, 1,658 tons
  • Turkey – $407,770, 1,243 tons
  • Germany – $325,730, 265 tons

For comparison, in 2023, the leading exporters to Georgia included Russia, Belarus, Germany, Egypt, and the Netherlands.
