Singapore durian supply halves due to unfavorable weather, delaying sales

The recent unfavorable weather conditions have impacted the durian supply in Singapore, leading to a forecasted yield that is only half of the previous year's output. This has been a concern for local durian sellers, as reported by Shin Min Daily News. Huang Mingyi, proprietor of 211 House Of Durian, noted a decrease in both the quantity and quality of durians received from suppliers. To maintain product standards, Huang mentioned the possibility of postponing sales. Similarly, other vendors have experienced delays in receiving their stock, attributing this to the weather conditions as well.

Lin, an assistant at Wonderful Durian, highlighted the unpredictability of durian arrivals, with this year's supply reaching them later than usual. The peak season's timing remains uncertain, depending on the production levels towards the month's end. Zhang Shiyong of Durian 36 observed that the year-end durian season is not widely recognized among locals, with tourists currently forming the majority of his clientele. He anticipates an increase in local customers with the arrival of new stock. Despite these challenges, the Musang King variety continues to be a consumer favorite, praised for its unique flavor profile.
