Dunkerque Port to invest 53.5€ in 2014

The overall activity, which includes every type of traffic, was at 43.6 million tonnes in 2013, 8.5% lower than the previous year. This drop is mainly due to the closing down of the thermal power plant, E.oN of Kingsnorth (UK) which has affected the traffic of charcoal.

The Port of Dunkerque's investment programme was carried out in 2013 with a total of 46.4M€. This is slightly lower than the initial budget, thanks to the finalisation of important parts of the Méthanier Terminal building site. The investment programme for 2014 is at 53.4 M€.

The Cap Port Ouest project will be established this year by calls for proposals to enlarge the turning basin, finalising research into extending the container terminal and creating a new wharf at the north end of the heavy goods quay. It is estimated that the financial support for this investment programme works out at 7.9 M€ at this point, of which 4.2 M€ is from the government, 1.7 M€ the European Union, 1 M€ from the CUD and 1 M€ from the region.
