Ivory Coast: campaign to promote the cashew apple

A caravan providing information, awareness and tastings of the cashew apple will travel through the towns of northern Ivory Coast, starting on February 7th and ending on the 24th of the same month in Abidjan.

At the press conference, Veerle van Waesberghe, in charge of the Program for the development of the Taï and Comoé economic and natural areas in Ivory Coast (PROFIAB II) of the German international Cooperation (GIZ), declared that the goal of this campaign was to promote the cashew apple by presenting its many processed derivatives (jams, sweets, cakes, juices, wine, beer, liquor, “dêgué” (semolina with milk)...). According to Veerle van Waesberghe, “it has been scientifically proven that cashew apples contain 3 to 5 times more vitamin C than oranges.”

Ivory Coast has a potential of 5 million tons of cashew apples to be processed. For this, the PROFIAB would like to encourage private investment, in order to create many jobs and thus help fight poverty in the country.
