North America has high demand for Deglet Noor dates

Algerian dates are receiving a constantly increasing demand from North American markets, according to Mr. Mohammed Merzoug, CEO of the Algerian dates grower Moudi Export.

The producer is located in South Eastern region of Tolga, famous cradle of the internationally recognized Deglet Noor variety. Mr. Mohammed describes his production: "The variety of Deglet Noor originates from the Tolga Oasis, where my plantations are located. Deglet Noor dates are different from any other variety, they are soft to the touch, have a light skin and a melting honey taste."

In addition to Algerian original Deglet Noor, the grower produces and exports Mabroom and Safawi dates, originating from the Arabian Peninsula and adopted in Algeria.

The demand for the dates of Togla receive a welcoming demand in the United States and Canada. A demand so important that Moudi Export has increased its volumes by 600 tons compared to the same period last year. Mr. Mohammed explains, "My production meets the highest quality standards, and is certified Organic, BRC and IFS Food. My customers are satisfied and come back for more."

In terms of prices, Mr. Mohammed points to an increase this year, explained by better quality compared to last season. The grower is in the testing phase of new varieties of Mabroom and Safawi dates.
