In the Netherlands, 1 Fresh International is getting the last of its Santa Maria and Devici pears. This wholesaler sells a wide range of Dutch and Spanish fruits and vegetables, but Turkish trade is its mainstay. "We were going to get Turkish tomatoes, too, but have postponed that for now because of the export ban," says Mevlut Uzun.
The Turkish fig season will begin at this exporter in June. "We've already made arrangements for this with our suppliers. We want to import a nice volume of this summer fruit from Turkey, supplemented with Spanish fruit." 1Fresh International primarily serves overseas wholesale market customers. "We export to Denmark, Sweden, Germany, Austria, and France wholesalers. We want to expand sales in the coming years by supplying supermarket programs," explains Mevlut.
"During the Dutch season, we sell mainly tomatoes, cucumbers, eggplants, and bell peppers. We work directly with growers for that. We've also begun importing exotic products like pineapple, ginger, limes, and avocados. We supply primarily Romanian and Turkish clients with these every week." When asked how he differentiates himself in the market, Mevut replies, "We're a small company - it's only my wife and me - so we have short lines and don't incur unnecessary costs. We can, thus, keep prices as low as possible for our buyers."
