Anecoop, Spain's main fruit and vegetable exporter and European leader in the kaki market, is finalizing preparations for the shipment of its first container of Brilliant Red Kaki Persimmon to mainland China. The shipment will depart on Thursday, December 14, from the port of Algeciras loaded with 15,000 kilos of this fruit that is mostly grown in the Valencian Community.
The container, with 15,000 kilos of Kaki Persimmon of the Bouquet brand, will leave the port of Algeciras on Thursday, December 14, and should arrive at the port of Shenzhen on January 16, 2024, from where it will be transferred to the Guangzhou market.
"We are carrying out this first shipment as a test to see how the process develops. We know that we have to take things slowly. In addition, we are already at the end of the kaki campaign, hence the limitation of the volume of product," stated Miguel Abril, the commercial director of Anecoop.
"We are sending a premium quality kaki and it is scheduled to arrive before the celebration of the Chinese New Year, which increases our expectation that it will have a good reception. We are already thinking about the next campaign for which we want to build an export program with continuity," he said.
The Anecoop member cooperative responsible for the preparation of the product is Coalmar, based in Llombai (Valencia). According to the bilateral China-Spain protocol, the fruit must be shipped undergoing cold treatment at zero degrees, which guarantees the arrival of the product in the best conditions.
Anecoop has experience in exporting fresh fruit and vegetable products to distant destinations. The cooperative regularly ships kaki to Canada, Brazil, and Hong Kong, as the Bright Red variety responds very well to long journeys.
"The Chinese market has always been in our sights because of its consumption potential and the knowledge it has of the product, as it is a producing country. That's why the cooperative has been very attentive to the negotiations on the Spanish kaki export file to China, which began at the end of 2016, "stated Miguel Abril.
The protocol signed in the first quarter of 2023, which was sealed on November 28, responds to the interest shown by the kaki-producing sector to expand export opportunities to a third country.
The agreed sanitary conditions require registering the cultivation plots and packing facilities that participate in the export program, as well as the monitoring of certain crop management measures during the production cycle and until its exit to the destination.
