Kenyan fruit and vegetable company rises to success under Dr Mwangi

Dr Isaac Mwangi, co-founder and director of Keitt Exporters Limited, has successfully positioned the Kenyan company as a leading fruit and vegetable exporter in Europe and the Middle East. Operational since 2001, Keitt Exporters Limited has grown significantly under Dr Mwangi's leadership.

Before the company's success, Dr Mwangi began as a fruit supplier in Malindi town in 1990. He later relocated to Makueni, supplying mangoes from local farms to Nairobi's supermarkets and exporters. Despite initial capital challenges, the company consistently provided high-quality supplies.

"With the blessings of God, we got some money from somewhere, then we started growing slowly," Dr Mwangi recalled. The company experienced significant growth by 2012.

Dr Mwangi underlined the importance of mission and vision in running an export company. He acknowledged the role of bodies like KEPHIS and HCD in providing necessary certifications, licenses, and business knowledge. He stressed the need to follow accurate chemical levels for exports and the role of his technical department in guiding farmers. He also urged the government to hire more extension officers and subsidize farming inputs.
