Minister of Agriculture Al-Sayed Al-Qusseir:

"Egyptian agricultural sector is proving to be resilient, achieving high growth rates"

Egypt's agricultural exports of fresh produce reached a record 7.4 million tons in 2023, generating $3.7 billion, according to Minister of Agriculture Al-Sayed Al-Qusseir. The country's fresh and processed agricultural exports combined brought in $9 billion.

The minister revealed that 406 agricultural products were exported from Egypt to 160 markets in 2023, a significant increase from the previous year. "Egypt has been able to eliminate obstacles standing in the way of agricultural exports by raising quality and offering competitive prices," Al-Qusseir stated.

Japan and Brazil were among the new markets. Al-Qusseir noted, "we are now exporting sizable quantities of citrus, grapes, and pomegranate to Japan and potatoes to Brazil."

Despite international disruptions such as the war in Ukraine and Houthi attacks on ships in the Red Sea, Al-Qusseir said, "the Egyptian agricultural sector has not only proved resilient but has achieved high growth rates."

Al-Khouli highlighted that the volume of agricultural exports in the 2022-23 season reached 5.6 million tons, a 29.2% increase from the previous season. Russia emerged as a leading importer of Egyptian crops, with approximately 688,000 tons worth $418m, representing 12% of the total of exported produce.
