The initial shipment of 950 tonnes of onions from South Africa has reached Zambia, aiming to alleviate the current market shortfall. This delivery is a fraction of the monthly import plan, which totals 3,500 tonnes, intended to address the scarcity and normalize market prices.
According to the Zambia Fruits and Vegetables Association (ZFVA), approximately 90 tonnes have already been distributed within the local market. Additionally, the Potatoes and Allied Products Association (OPAPA) has contributed by importing around 50 tonnes of onions.
