Florida International Terminal renewed its lease agreement to operate at Port Everglades for another 10 years

Florida International Terminal (FIT), one of SAAM Terminals port terminal, has successfully renewed its lease agreement at Port Everglades for another 10 years, after authorization by the Broward Country Commissioners and the local Port Authority.

FIT's CEO, Justin P. Weir, appreciated the approval "our entire team has been working on this goal for over two years and we have been preparing the terminal with investments to continue positioning the terminal as one of the leading cargo terminals in South Florida, with the best service to customers in the region".

As part of the contract, which runs until 2035, FIT plans to invest US$ 25 million in the container terminal in the next 24 months to continue to provide more sustainable and efficient way to handle cargo for our customers as well as provide additional work opportunities for our International Longshoremen´s Association (ILA) Union workforce.

In 2018, the terminal boosted a modernization plan with a total investment of US$ 5 million that doubled its capacity to dispatch containers. In the last year, FIT has continued to add new services to its operation and as it continues to serve the North-South trade lanes into the US from Central America, South America and the Carribean.

FIT is one of the ten ports operated by SAAM Terminals in the America´s and is strategically located to meet the consumption and cargo needs of one of the world's largest consumer regions. The terminal is connected to major highways and railroads, facilitating quick, fluid access to ground and intermodal transportation and expanding the area of influence. Last year the terminal transferred 296k TEU's and 2.5 million Tons of cargo across the quay. There are four berths available from the Port Authority with a maximum draft of 12.8 meters, along with six of the highest low-profile ship to shore cranes in the world, capable of handling 12,000 TEU class vessels.
