Spotted Lantern Fly confirmed along the Michigan/Ohio border

Entomologists have identified the Spotted Lantern Fly along the Michigan/Ohio border, highlighting the risk it poses to approximately 70 crops within Michigan, including grapes, hops, and apples. The detection occurred on June 17th through traps deployed by Michigan State University in Lambertville, a locality merely two miles north of the Ohio boundary.

This incident, recorded in Monroe County, marks the second identification of the invasive species in Michigan, following an initial report in Oakland County in 2022, as per the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development. State officials are urging the public to take action against the pest by eliminating it upon sight and reporting the occurrence.
