Daniel Zeichner appointed farming minister in the UK

Daniel Zeichner MP has taken on the role of Farming Minister at the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra), following the appointment by the UK's new Prime Minister, Keir Starmer. Zeichner, representing Cambridge since 2015 and recently re-elected, joins the Defra team under Environment Secretary Steve Reed.

His prior positions include Labour's Shadow Minister for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, and Shadow Minister for Transport. Described as a "life-long environmentalist" with a keen focus on agriculture and food issues, Zeichner has been an advocate for remaining in the EU and the Single Market. His parliamentary work includes leading Labour's scrutiny of the Agricultural Bill and participating in the committee for the Environment Bill. He has actively engaged in debates on food security and environmental standards, and has discussed the implications of Labour's 'right to roam' policy with farmers in the Peak District.
