Merger of two of Chile's most important nurseries

Nueva Vid joins Grupo Hijuelas to transform fruit production globally

In order to spearhead change in fruit growing in Chile and the region, as well as to promote a long-awaited technological reconfiguration of the industry, currently faced with climate change and a loss of competitiveness, two of the most important nurseries in the country have decided to join forces.

Nueva Vid, renowned for its influence on the table grape industry, is merging with Grupo Hijuelas, a holding of agricultural companies that is emerging as a platform for agricultural development, and which is present in various markets worldwide. The partnership promises to revolutionize plant production globally.

Gaspar Goycoolea, president of Grupo Hijuelas, said with enthusiasm that Nueva Vid is contributing to a joint effort to scale up the production of fruit plants globally. "Synergies are coming together for the development of Chilean fruit growing. Chile needs to shake off the bad vibes and break with years of inertia to move towards a new fruit growing model."

For his part, the main partner of Nueva Vid and former president of Fedefruta, Jorge Valenzuela Trebilcock, underlined the urgency of this alliance. "Fruit growing in Chile currently needs a reform. This requires work in genetics, quality, technology and the support that Nueva Vid will be able to provide to growers in Chile, Latin America and the world by joining Grupo Hijuelas. They will be offering plants with high quality standards and the right genetics, as well as agronomic technical support."

Juan Ignacio Goycoolea, general manager of the holding company, highlighted the diversification that this merger entails, as well as its scope. "The idea is to integrate not only Nueva Vid's experience with table grapes, but also to jointly expand the product portfolio, focusing on bigger fruits on the Grupo Hijuelas platform, such as cherries and peaches, so that the Chilean industry can also target other markets. In the same way, other Hijuelas units will be at the service of Nueva Vid to deliver an outstanding product."

Valenzuela's prospects are optimistic. "Chile needs change to become a relevant player in the Southern Hemisphere. This reform is actually necessary at a global level due to changes in consumer habits. Today's consumers demand unique and high quality products."

The merger of Nueva Vid and Grupo Hijuelas marks the beginning of a new era in fruit growing, taking fruit tree production to a new level of quality and efficiency.
