JP Scardigli, Scardigli et Fils:

“The market is fluid, but eggplants are not well promoted”

The eggplant market is "relatively fluid", according to Jean-Pascal Scardigli of Scardigli et Fils. Sales are good, but at prices that are unfortunately unable to go up. "The problem this year is that we are not able to make the most of our product. The clients are very demanding, and there is no room for negotiation. Whenever we try to negotiate on prices, the lines are cut or the orders are halved."

Several factors may be responsible for this. "This applies to the ratatouille range in general, maybe because our clients had to pay a lot of money for imported products this winter and are now trying to make up for it during the French season. This could also be due to a general consumption problem caused by the bad weather. What is certain is that we producers do not deserve to always have such low prices. Our product is "undervalued", which in no way reflects its "optimal" quality.
