Nicola Leonardi, sales manager at Sant'Orsola

Cherries from Trentino Alto-Adige available until the end of July

The variable weather has not hindered cherry production at the Sant'Orsola cooperative. The frequent rain during blossoming in the production areas located mostly in Trentino, and in Valsugana in particular, had producers expecting the worst, but the anti-rain and anti-insect nets on most orchards limited the damage.

Nicola Leonardi.

Sales manager Nicola Leonardi reported that "we are expecting the season to be very good when it comes to both quantities and quality, as at least 70% of cherries boast a grade of 28 or higher. Our Kordia cherries are perfectly crunchy and with a good flavor and the sunny July days are helping them achieve a good flavor. Harvesting of the Regina variety will start soon."

Our partners followed the guidelines provided by the cooperative, making the necessary investments and following the harvesting method recommended so that they can take care of the plants and the land. Sorting and grading are in fact carried out by the cooperative thanks to high-tech machinery. This also forms part of how Sant'Orsola values the work of its partners, who have been growing cherries for over 40 years.

"Harvesting operations for Kordia – the leading variety grown and commercialized by the cooperative - started in late June, i.e. one week later than usual, and is currently in full swing."

For the first time, companies from Alto Adige will also provide their prestigious late cherries from the hill and mountain areas, with orchards located up to 1500 m asl. The cherry season will therefore continue until the end of July. What is more, the labels on the Sant'Orsola packets have been renewed and now boast new graphic and colours, highlighting the historicity and Italian origin of the produce."

"Quantities, quality and grades please even the most demanding clients. We can fully meet the currently lively demand. In addition, the collaboration of the companies from Alto Adige will enable us to meet market demand at least until the end of July."
