Philippines extends red onion importation ban until August

The Department of Agriculture has decided to prolong the prohibition on red onion imports into the Philippines until August, continuing a policy initially enacted in January. This measure was introduced with the anticipation of an adequate domestic supply to meet the country's needs.

Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. articulated the stance of the department, stating, "It is not [really necessary] to import onions, so I guess we would be extending (the ban) on a monthly basis." The extension aims to assess and respond to the domestic market's requirements continually.
