The Tripura government has initiated the opening of four temporary fair-price shops in Agartala, along with a counter at Maharajganj Bazaar, aimed at stabilizing the escalating prices of onions and tomatoes. This response addresses the recent price surge experienced in these commodities.
Officials have disclosed that onions are being sold at Rs 42 per kg and potatoes at Rs 35 per kg at these outlets. An offer has been made where consumers can avail three kilograms of potatoes for Rs 100. The continuation of these fair-price shops is dependent on the market situation, with plans to establish more outlets if required. This initiative mirrors a similar strategy employed last August when the government opened onion fair-price shops to mitigate the impact of price hikes on consumers.
