Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region

New air transport option facilitates the export of cool-season vegetables to Dubai

In the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, a new air transport option has been facilitating the export of cool-season vegetables to Dubai, United Arab Emirates, since May. This route, operated by flight 3U3781, allows for the transport of six to ten tonnes of vegetables every Thursday from Yinchuan to Dubai, enhancing the freshness of the produce upon arrival. Over 80 tonnes of vegetables have already been shipped through this method.

The vegetables, including Chinese broccoli and spinach, are grown in conditions favourable for organic agriculture, benefitting from Ningxia's abundant sunshine, cool climate, and clean resources. According to Wei Xinmin of Ningxia Xingyuntian Modern Agricultural Development Company, these vegetables undergo a meticulous process of harvesting, cooling, sorting, and packaging before exportation.

Upon reaching Dubai, the vegetables are distributed to various commercial establishments, addressing the local demand for fresh produce. The air transport service, initiated in 2015, has not only bolstered Ningxia's vegetable exports but also strengthened trade relations between Ningxia and Middle Eastern countries. Despite the higher logistics costs, the venture has proved profitable, with potential expansions into other Middle Eastern markets being explored.

WenChao Group, a significant retailer in Dubai, reports high demand for Ningxia's cool-season vegetables, underscoring the success of this export initiative. With Ningxia aiming to expand its vegetable cultivation area and output by 2025, the region is poised to meet the growing demand for its produce in Dubai and potentially other markets in the Middle East.
