Reece van der Velden - NZ Cherry Corp

"With new plantings, we anticipate extending our season from late November to mid-February by 2026"

Cromwell, Central Otago, boasts mineral-rich soils and enjoys New Zealand's highest sunshine hours—2,531.8 hours in January alone, making it an ideal location for growing cherries.

"Cromwell is the premier location for growing NZ Cherry Corp cherries. Our cherries are renowned for their exceptional quality, and we ensure they meet the market demand for Chinese New Year, supplying throughout January," said Reece van der Velden, General Manager at NZ Cherry Corp. "However, with new plantings, we anticipate extending our season from late November to mid-February by 2026. This expansion will allow us to offer our cherries for a more extended period, catering to an even broader audience."

"We predict a promising season ahead, with a typical dry and sunny summer expected in Central Otago. Thanks to a 127% increase in plantings, we anticipate a bumper crop of 800 tonnes. Of this volume, 70% is destined for export, reflecting the growing global demand for our cherries."

"Asia remains a crucial market for our cherries, with Taiwan and China standing out due to their appreciation of high-quality produce. NZ Cherry Corp cherries are traditionally gifted in these regions to signify health and prosperity. Our commitment to quality aligns perfectly with these cultural values, making our cherries highly sought after."

In addition to Taiwan and China, NZ Cherry Corp export to 13 markets, including Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, the USA, Japan, and South Korea. "Our presence in these countries has been established for over 15 years, demonstrating our ability to consistently deliver high-quality cherries worldwide as we look forward to expanding our global reach.

"Asia receives the majority of our exports, with 80% of our cherries destined for this vibrant market. Our standout brand for the Asian market is "Cherry Delight," featuring reflective gold foil blossoms on a bright red background. This premium gift packaging is available in 1kg square, 1.5kg round, and 2kg rectangle boxes, making it an ideal choice for festive occasions like Chinese New Year."

NZ Cherry Corp Cherries are distinguished by their firm, crunchy texture and high brix, combined with a mineral-rich flavor. They are non-GMO, washed, and ready to eat, ensuring a premium product with high nutrient content.

"Certified by GlobalGAP, our cherries meet stringent quality and safety standards. By airfreighting directly from our orchards, we guarantee a reliable, high-quality product delivered within 60 hours from picking to market."

NZ Cherry Corp will be at Asia Fruit Logistica in Hall 5, Booth No, 5S40
