Brazil saw fruit exports drop 7.62% in 1H 2024

In the initial six months of 2024, Brazil witnessed a downturn in its fruit exports, totalling 491,800 tonnes, marking a 7.62% decrease from the same timeframe in 2023. This data was highlighted in the latest release from the National Supply Company (Conab) on August 16, as part of the 8th Bulletin of the Brazilian Program for the Modernization of the Horticulture Market (Prohort).

Contrastingly, the revenue generated from these exports experienced a growth of 3.73%, amounting to $628.89 million (FOB), despite the decline in volume. The discrepancy between the volume and revenue figures can be attributed to the higher value-added of certain fruits like mango and grapes, which faced reduced domestic supply but still managed to contribute positively to the earnings.

Abrafrutas has provided an optimistic forecast for the latter half of the year, anticipating a surge in both volume and revenue from the exports of key fruits such as mango, melon, and watermelon, which are expected to reach their peak shipment period.
