From August 28-30 in Cancun, the XVI edition of the Annual Congress of the Mexican Association of Protected Horticulture (AMHPAC) was held.
The AMHPAC Convention brought together almost 400 participants, 13 speakers, and a commercial area with 50 stands exclusive for annual sponsors.
This event brought together vegetable producers from the Mexican states of Aguascalientes, Baja California, Coahuila, Guanajuato, Jalisco, Michoacán, Puebla, San Luis Potosí, Sinaloa, Sonora and Zacatecas.
During the inaugural ceremony, there was a remote message from Santiago Argüello on behalf of Dr. Víctor Villalobos, secretary of SADER. "Today more than ever, the agri-food sector faces important challenges, including degraded soils, a decrease in the water resource available for agriculture - both rainfed and irrigation -, a decrease in labor, high volatility of input and market prices; among many others, and that significantly affect productive activity and make comprehensive risk prevention management necessary to avoid ups and downs in production and consequently in the income of producing families," said Argüello.

Attendees learned about the most relevant issues regarding the Suspension Agreement during the Ordinary General Assembly of AMHPAC and in private meetings held with lawyers:
- Sunset Review: analysis carried out by authorities in the USA every five years to evaluate whether the Agreement should continue or end.
- Update on the FTE's request to terminate the Suspension Agreement.
- Determination of the international court to annul the 20.91 percent tariff rate on exports.
- Analysis of the Mexican Tomato export scheme.
Companies providing inputs and services from eight countries attended the event, from greenhouse builders to high-tech providers for operations automation.
Topics discussed in the conference series included: the situation and solutions for water in Mexico and the world; the importance of food security; bioeconomy and sustainability as business possibilities; and nearshoring and financial strategies to achieve the growth of a company in the face of a crisis.
There was also a financial area at the Congress to strengthen financial decision-making in companies. There, Alejandro Trueba, financial advisor of the AMHPAC, helped producers in their relationship with the financial sector, structuring strategies to access funding, capital, and coverage.
