In Lahore, the Punjab Minister for Agriculture and Livestock, Syed Ashiq Hussain Kirmani, announced the development of a cutting-edge vegetable market within Ravi City, anticipated to rank as Asia's finest. Highlighting the strategic planning of access routes, Kirmani underscored the enhancement of Metro and Speedo bus services to the market, aiming to support laborers and vendors. This initiative is set to be inaugurated by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz shortly.
The announcement came during a ceremony for the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Ravi Urban Development Authority (RUDA) and the Punjab Agriculture Marketing Regulatory Authority (PAMRA), with signatures from Tariq Basra, PAMRA's Director General, and Imran Amin, CEO of RUDA. The collaboration aims to transform the market into a regional export hub, focusing on the farming and cold storage of key vegetables to stabilize supply and pricing.
RUDA's CEO, Imran Amin, detailed the market's layout, spanning 300 acres with comprehensive access and infrastructure designed to international standards. The facility will feature an export zone, modern cold storage, and a robust operational and cleanliness system managed by RUDA and PAMRA respectively. Furthermore, discussions led by PAMRA's DG, Tariq Basra, are in progress to facilitate the relocation of vendors from the existing Badami Bagh vegetable market to this new venue.
