Planasa's subsidiary in Southern Africa, Planasa South Africa, is now two years old and would like to celebrate the occasion, inviting all blueberry growers with a Field Day in the Western Cape area. It will take place in Wellington on 26 September 2024

This event aims to show attendees the performance of the main Planasa Genetics blueberry varieties, both fruit and plants. The leading varieties are Blue Maldiva, Blue Madeira and Blue Manila.
According to Manuel Garcés, the blueberry Sales Director of Planasa, "Our genetics offer earliness, quality and high production." About their performance in the previous seasons he states that "it seems like if they were bred specifically for this area, so they have been well established and have been successfully accepted by the market, although Blue Maldiva is the one grabbing more attention from both growers and marketers".
Blue Maldiva offers high yields and great homogeneity throughout the harvest cycle. Its fruit has an extra-large calibre and nice firmness. This variety is already performing well in other locations and being demanded by the leading European and Middle East retailers.
Changes in the growing license
Planasa also wants to celebrate this second anniversary changing the access conditions to the breeding program, making it even more attractive and accessible to the blueberry growers.
With respect to Southern Africa, Garcés believes that "there is great potential in the area thanks to its culture, weather, and agricultural conditions. Southern Africa has everything to become one of the main players for the blueberry industry in the coming years, and PLANASA wants to collaborate. We already have commercial plantations in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia and we are exploring other locations. With these new conditions we will promote new plantations, and we will help the growth of the economy in the area".
Finally, the Blueberry Sales director has showed satisfaction with the last year, despite being the first year, "the plant produced in South Africa was of high quality and this year is expected to be even better".
