There are decisions in life that lay the foundation for one's own future and that of the entire family. Hans Deckers made this decision 50 years ago: He switched the agricultural business in Geldern in the Lower Rhine region to the production of mushrooms. Today, the Deckers Group is one of the largest mushroom producers in Germany. On more than 85,000 square metres of its own cultivation area around the Lower Rhine and the Rhine-Necker region, the group cultivates white and brown mushrooms as well as other mushrooms such as shiitake, king oyster and oyster mushrooms, some of which are organic.
Around 500 tonnes of mushrooms per week supply the west and south-west of Germany with this sustainably produced, high-quality food. In November last year, the family received the "Niederrhein 2023" business award for outstanding achievements for the Lower Rhine business location. Deckers is one of the pioneers of mushroom cultivation in the mushroom industry, and his experience and advice are highly valued. He has been committed to the interests of mushroom cultivation for decades and is active in various honorary positions, including as Chairman of the Association of German Mushroom and Cultivated Mushroom Growers (BDC).
As part of the celebration of the company's 50th anniversary, the honorary chairman of the BDC, Franz Schmaus, thanked his longstanding colleague for his commitment. He congratulated Deckers on his success, including the fact that his two sons and their families had joined the company. Schmaus recalled the time when he himself was still working as a business consultant in Krefeld, advising Deckers on the founding of the former "Rheinland-Champignon". "At that time, no outsider could have guessed that this young man, 'Hans Deckers', would one day take over the sales centre and develop into one of the largest mushroom companies in Germany," said Schmaus. During his own time as Chairman of the BDC, Deckers had always been a pillar of support for him, and he was always very happy to accept his advice and benefit from his foresight. The Honorary Chairman wished Hans Deckers, his family, and his employees all the best and continued success.
