Onion price hike in Bengaluru amid supply concerns

In Bengaluru, onion prices have experienced a rise, initially marked at Rs 50 per kg and now reaching between Rs 60 to Rs 70 per kg. This escalation is linked to a diminished supply, primarily due to excessive rainfall in Karnataka, impacting onion production adversely. Previously, the state relied on North Karnataka for its onion supply, but recent weather conditions have caused damage to the crops. Consequently, the market is now turning to Pune, Maharashtra, for its onion needs.

Market speculators suggest a potential increase in prices as the Dasara festival approaches. In addition to onions, garlic prices have surged past Rs 400 per kg, putting further financial strain on consumers already grappling with rising costs of essential goods.
