Șerban Holding Group invests in Romanian french fries plant and vegetable storage expansion

Șerban Holding Group is set to channel 62.5 million euros into two initiatives over the next four years, with backing from the Agency for Rural Investment Financing (AFIR). These ventures focus on the processing and storage of potatoes, fostering a seamless integration of cultivation, processing, and industrialization of products from their own harvest and others.

The first initiative, a Potato Processing Plant, was submitted through Programul Național de Investiții InvestAlim on December 24, 2023, and approved for funding on September 24, 2024. This project will see the establishment of a robotic line for frozen French fries and potato flakes in Sascut, Bacău County. Nicolae Șerban, the group's founder, highlighted the importance of expansion and the venture's role in developing Romania's potato processing sector. The facility, boasting the largest Romanian capital-backed potato processing line in Romania, aims for an annual output of 30,000 tons of French fries and 6,000 tons of potato flakes, targeting both local and international markets.

Alongside this, Șerban Holding Group is implementing the Sustainable Social Ecosystem, aimed at engaging and educating local farmers in sustainable practices. This initiative is expected to enhance the group's business model and contribute to a reduction in carbon footprint through efficient agricultural technologies. Nicolae Șerban emphasized the advantage of using both their own and local farmers' potatoes, ensuring quality control throughout the production chain.

The second project involves the construction of potato storage and processing warehouses, supported through measure DR 22 – Investments in conditioning, storage, and processing of agricultural and horticultural products. This includes five refrigerated warehouses and a logistics warehouse, enhancing the group's cold storage capacity to 51,500 tons.
