Cologne wholesale centre to close at the end of 2025: plans for the future decided

Operations at Cologne's wholesale market will ultimately cease at the end of 2025. This was the final decision taken by the Cologne City Council on Tuesday (1 October). However, according to the city council, the traders at the wholesale market will receive support in their search for a new location.

The council has also decided to go ahead with plans for the so-called "Food Hub". Various location options for the new, modern fresh food center are to be identified. It will also be examined whether sufficient traders from the wholesale market would be willing to participate in the development of the food hub.

In the future, Parkstadt Süd is to be built around the historic wholesale market hall - a new urban district with several thousand flats, offices, commercial space, social facilities and green spaces.
