This year, Ukraine's "Agrotrade" faces challenges with peanut cultivation, and yields are expected to be lower than anticipated. The main reason is the lack of rainfall since planting. Although peanuts are drought-resistant, the dry conditions have affected the pods' quantity and quality.
The harvest process is still ongoing, starting with mechanised digging, followed by field drying. Special machines turn the plants for even drying. Since this is a test plot, manual labour will be used for further processing, as the company doesn't yet have specialized harvesters for peanuts.
Alexander Ovsyanik, director of Agrotrade's agri-department, noted that yields will likely fall below global standards (2-4 tons/ha).
