"Despite challenges successful start to pomelo season"

"The 2024 Honey Pomelo season has its challenges again," said Piet Hoek of Hars & Hagebauer. The pomelos are an important product for the importer. "But this season, too, is going differently than expected. The main problems arise from the long delays. We now experience it daily that the container ships have such delays that delivery times are extended to sometimes up to three weeks."

"Of course, this results in a tight market for a while now. We see that sales prices are now above expectations for a while. But they should be! Purchase prices in China are significantly higher this year. That results in a somewhat more cautious policy among most importers anyway. So far, we have managed to guarantee weekly arrivals for our regular customers. Customers entrust us with their pomelo program and we make sure the fruit is there. Even if we have to go the extra mile to do so," says the importer.

New this year is packaging without a net. Instead of a net, as shown in the picture, the protective film is printed as a net. "Saves a mountain of plastic anyway and the supermarkets are asking for it," said Piet. "It is expected that across the bandwidth there will be a little less Honey Pomelos on the market this year. But how many, no one knows yet. If they are there, we will have them!"
