Nashik district experiences crop damage due to heavy rain

Recent rainfall in Nashik district on October 13 and 14 has led to damage of Kharif crops over 24,852 hectares, impacting 41,413 farmers in 301 villages within seven talukas. The state agriculture department has reported on the preliminary assessment of the damage. Affected talukas include Malegaon, Deola, Chandwad, Surgana, Kalwan, Trimbakeshwar, and Niphad. The damage spanned various crops, notably onions, maize, vegetables, paddy, soybeans, tomatoes, and grapes. Onions suffered the most, with 7,935 hectares damaged, followed by maize and vegetables. The total Kharif sowing area in Nashik was 6.27 lakh hectares, indicating a significant portion of the agricultural land was affected. Malegaon taluka was the hardest hit, with 14,599 hectares of crops damaged, affecting 22,405 farmers. Deola and Chandwad talukas also saw considerable damage. The agriculture department continues to assess the situation.
