Panama sees 7% increase in exports in 2024, aiming for $1.25 billion by year-end

Throughout 2024, Panama has observed a 7% increase in exports from January to the present, compared to the same period in 2023. The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MICI) anticipates that by the year's end, the total export value will surpass $1.25 billion, marking a 5% rise from the previous year. Eric Dormoi, the National Director of Export Promotion at MICI, highlighted the impact of diversification and added value in enhancing the performance of Panama's export sector.

A key export product includes bananas. The United States, the Netherlands, and various Asian countries serve as primary markets for these exports. Additionally, the industrial and agro-industrial sectors are gaining traction in the Caribbean market.

Ricardo GarcĂa Salas, president of the Non-Traditional Agro-Exporters Group of Panama (Gantrap), identified watermelon as the top non-traditional export, followed by pineapple and squash, with melon and papaya also gaining ground. Other exports such as ginger and cassava contribute to Panama's export portfolio, albeit in smaller quantities.
