In Kargil, the first consignment of Karkitchoo Apple was dispatched to Dubai, marking a notable moment for the region's agricultural sector. The shipment, weighing one metric ton, is a collaborative effort between Rangyul Organic Producer Company Ltd. (ROPCL) and the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), facilitated by the support of the Lulu Group. The event was hosted at the ROPCL Cold Storage Unit, witnessing the presence of local dignitaries and stakeholders.
During the ceremony, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon highlighted ROPCL's endeavors in elevating Kargil's organic produce on international platforms. He underscored the significance of organic farming in enhancing the economic status of local farmers and urged the adoption of sustainable farming methods. Furthermore, Dr. Akhoon committed to supporting ROPCL with a refrigerated van to bolster the cold chain infrastructure in Kargil, crucial for maintaining the quality of organic products.
ROPCL's CEO, Ahmad Ali, remarked on this being the company's second venture into the export market, following the successful shipment of lilies and apricots. He anticipates that the distinct Karkitchoo apples will appeal to overseas markets, contributing to Kargil's reputation for premium organic produce.
