A giant squash weighing more than 625 kilos sits proudly on the shelves of Metro France (Paris Bercy). "We try to have giant squash in the shop every autumn. We frequently stock large squash weighing between 35 and 50 kg, and this is the third squash we have bought that weighs over 500 kg," explains Ayoub Ayouni, expert sales advisor fruit and vegetables at Metro France.
A giant from Maine-et-Loire, grown by Patrice Pasquier, which took second place in this year's National Giant Fruit and Vegetable competition. This squash literally and figuratively cannot go unnoticed! "It has been getting a lot of reactions from our customers, who are often amazed and astounded by the size of the vegetable. Many come to have their photo taken with it and tell us they have never seen a squash of this size before."
It is a unique specimen that could make a daring buyer very happy. "We are offering this squash for 1099 euros. It cost around a hundred euros to transport it to our shop. We already have a few interested customers, including one who is waiting for approval from the Paris City Hall to be able to store it in front of his restaurant."
