China's new apple season is in full swing, with Shaanxi's apple-producing regions completing the final stages of storage. Mr. Zhou Liang from Shaanxi Biaotou Agriculture is currently procuring apples in Luochuan, Shaanxi. He explains, "This year, unlike last year's crop losses and quality issues due to hail, favorable weather has led to an abundant apple harvest in Shaanxi. The new season's apples are larger, have fewer blemishes, and are overall better quality than last year."
"However, after last season's high purchase prices and poor sales performance, many farmers and traders faced losses. This season, while farmers are eager to sell, dealers remain cautious. Some traders still hold stock from the previous season, and many are taking a wait-and-see approach. Prices at origin have dropped by about 25% compared to last year."
Following the National Day Golden Week, market demand for apples remains steady, though not particularly strong, and the future market trend is uncertain. On the positive side, this season's high-quality apples and lower acquisition costs have eased some pressure on dealers.
In terms of apple varieties, the traditional Fuji continues to dominate, while newer varieties like Ruixue and Qincui hold smaller shares but show strong market potential, with prices significantly higher than Fuji.
Shaanxi Biaotou Agriculture specializes in Shaanxi apples, grapes, Dali winter jujubes, Angeleno plums, and jujube nectarines. For this season's Luochuan apples, the company has introduced 7.5 kg two-layer boxes and 17 kg four-layer boxes for supermarket sales.
