Refrigeration giant Americold closes 's-Gravenzande branch

US parent company Americold is closing its Westland facility, marking the end of the refrigeration company in 's-Gravenzande, which was known for many years as ADB Cool Company, after 95 years of operation. The company, originally owned by the De Bruijn family, was acquired in 2015 by Agro Merchants Group, which later became Americold. The complex has a total capacity of 15,000 pallet spaces and 150,000 m³ of refrigerated and freezer space, divided across 48 cold stores.

A spokesperson for Americold told WOS that the decision was made after a "careful assessment of our operations." Employees and customers have been informed, though an exact closure date and transition period are still under discussion. Around 50 employees worked at the company. The group has not provided specific reasons for the closure, though it is known that Americold has suffered significant financial losses worldwide in recent years. In 2021, it reported a loss of over USD 30 million, in 2022 a loss of over USD 19 million, and last year, a loss exceeding USD 300 million.
