Haith Group, a manufacturer of vegetable handling equipment, first worked with MH Poskitt in 1959 when Geoff Haith provided repair services to Mark Poskitt. At that time, Poskitts was growing around 1,000 tons of carrots annually. Today, that volume has reached 70,000 tons per year, alongside parsnips and potatoes, all processed on the family farm in Kellington, Yorkshire, and supplied to supermarkets and food service companies.
In 1970, Poskitt purchased a dry cleaner from Haith as one of its first customers. Several machine purchases followed, including a recent upgrade to a modern barrel washer. The Haith barrel washer features a rotating barrel semi-submerged in water, allowing vegetables to rub against each other and the barrel for surface cleaning. A discharge elevator removes the vegetables from the water, with a final rinse applied via a freshwater spray bar before further processing.
The new washer replaces two older Haith washers installed 25 years ago, offering improved efficiency and reduced water and electricity usage without compromising wash quality. In addition to washing carrots, MH Poskitt also operates a Haith washing line for parsnips at the same site. The company processes, packs, and distributes its fresh and prepared produce from its Kellington facility.
