The current geopolitical climate is challenging, and the logistics sector is also experiencing the effects. "Both customers and goods have adapted to the current situation," says Massimo Delpozzo, sales manager for the Italian logistics company Nord Ovest. However, this does not indicate a lack of interest in exploring new solutions. For example, there has been an increase in the airfreight of high-value fruit, as well as exports via modified atmosphere containers."

"In light of the ongoing partial closure of the Suez Canal, Nord Ovest is drawing on its extensive experience, comprehensive studies and relentless search for solutions to meet customers' evolving needs. At this time of year, we are experiencing a surge in apple exports. We are exporting apples to a diverse range of Asian destinations, including those situated around the Cape of Good Hope. As a result of experiences encountered over recent months, other customers have once again requested modified atmosphere containers.
However, this is not exclusive to the Asian market. Furthermore, Italian apples are being exported to North America (including Canada), as well as to Mexico and other destinations in South America. "Conversely, there is currently limited interest in exporting kiwifruit due to the reduced quantities available," says Delpozzo.
The cost of rentals has remained relatively stable after the increases at the beginning of the year. "At Nord Ovest, our objective is to provide our customers with the services they require in order to succeed. This encompasses the organisation of processes, the identification of solutions, the monitoring of expenditure and the avoidance of issues at the source. Furthermore, a daily review of destinations and geopolitical situations is conducted in advance of these operations."
