Decline in Tahiti lime prices and U.S. reliance on Brazilian orange juice

Early November witnessed a decline in Tahiti lime quotations, attributed to fruit size and quality not meeting sector expectations, despite being the offseason. Cepea reports indicate a mid-November average price of BRL 95.59 per 27.2-kg box, a 16.17% decrease from late October. Previously, the price average stood at BRL 117.94/box, marking a significant rise from September and a 71% increase from October the previous year.

In the United States, Florida concluded its 2023/24 orange season in September, with the Citrus Department noting low juice stock levels similar to Brazil. The U.S. has predominantly become an orange juice importer, largely due to the impact of greening in Florida, with Brazil serving as a key supplier. The Brazilian industry's challenges with supply and pricing in the 2023/24 season have likely contributed to the inability to replenish Florida's orange juice stocks.
