Organic pomegranate thrives in Europe with focus on health and sustainability

Organic pomegranate is increasingly establishing itself as a fruit of excellence in the European panorama, thanks also to the It's Bio project sustained by Aop Gruppo Vi.Va which promotes quality organic fruit in the markets of Italy, Belgium, and Greece. This ancient fruit, today a symbol of well-being and sustainability, is at the center of production and commercial growth, meeting the favor of consumers who are increasingly attentive to health and environmental sustainability.

Organic pomegranate stands out for its extraordinary nutritional properties. Rich in antioxidants, especially polyphenols, it helps to combat oxidative stress and support the cardiovascular system. It is an important source of vitamin C, potassium, and fiber, ideal for a balanced and healthy diet. Its low-calorie content makes it perfect for those who follow an active and well-being-oriented lifestyle.

In Italy, the production of organic pomegranates has seen significant growth in recent years, driven by interest in natural and sustainable products. The It's Bio project has helped strengthen the positioning of this excellence, focusing on high-quality varieties and environmentally friendly production processes.

Even in Belgium and Greece, key markets of the project, the consumption of organic pomegranates is growing. Belgian consumers appreciate the versatility of the fruit, ideal for smoothies, salads, and desserts. In Greece, the pomegranate has a strong cultural tradition and is increasingly valued in its organic version, both fresh and processed.

The typical consumer of organic pomegranates is looking for genuine products that combine taste, health benefits, and respect for the environment. Italian, Belgian, and Greek families are increasingly approaching this fruit, attracted by its premium image and its thousand-year history.

Italy is positioning itself as a European leader in the production of organic pomegranates, with a growing focus on the sustainability of cultivation. Italian farms are investing in innovative technologies to ensure a top-quality product. Thanks to the favorable climate, the main production areas, such as Puglia and Sicily, offer pomegranates with a unique and unmistakable flavor. In terms of cultivation, organic pomegranate is resistant to drought and pathogens, therefore it lends itself very well to organic production by choosing the most recent varieties such as the very productive Wonderful with excellent organoleptic and taste quality.

"We have seen growing interest in this fruit with excellent organoleptic characteristics," Mirco Zanotti, president of Aop Gruppo Vi. Va, says: "The production of pomegranates within the AOP involves the associated OP Sole, Apofruit Italia, and Codma. Furthermore, a partnership has been developed between the associated OP OrtoRomi, Apofruit Italia, and the Canova brand for the production of a line of organic extracts obtained with an innovative cold process without the addition of water, preservatives or sugars".

The organic pomegranate, with its extraordinary nutritional qualities and its strong symbolic impact capable of evoking the strength of nature, the mystery of life, and the beauty of the union between cultures, represents one of the spearheads of this mission, testifying to the value of sustainability and respect for nature.
