In 2024, Moldova observed a shift in its grape export dynamics, with a significant redirection towards the European Union (EU). According to government spokesperson Daniel Voda, 74% of Moldova's grape exports now find their way to the EU, up from 36% in 2021. Conversely, the Russian market's share plummeted from 48% to a mere 6% over the same period. The first ten months of 2024 saw the value of these exports to EU countries hitting 627 million lei, doubling the figures from the previous year. Romania and Poland emerged as the top recipients of Moldovan table grapes.
The diversification of export destinations in 2023 marked Moldova's presence in 33 countries, expanding from 23 in 2022. New markets include Sweden, Slovenia, Slovakia, Italy, Lithuania, Albania, Serbia, the United Arab Emirates, China (Hong Kong), and Kyrgyzstan. Voda highlighted this expansion as indicative of the high quality of Moldovan grapes and the concerted efforts of local farmers and government support to penetrate competitive markets. He underscored the EU's role as Moldova's leading trade ally, absorbing two-thirds of its exports.
The year 2023 saw a notable increase in table grape exports from Moldova, both in volume and value. Statistics from the Customs Service show an 11% rise in the quantity and a 33% increase in the value of exported grapes, totaling 84.55 thousand tons valued at 75.67 million dollars.
