Weekly trends in seasonal perishable commodities in Northern America

This report provides a trend analysis of the volume and prices of Seasonal Perishable commodities. Volume represents the current week, and prices represent open (spot) market sales by first handlers on products of generally good quality and condition unless otherwise stated and may include promotional allowances or other incentives. The charts provide a graphic representation of the volume and prices of the major commodities this week based on seasonal volume.

Asparagus
Movement from Peru imports through South Florida ports of entry is expected to increase with retail demand for the holiday season. Trading is fairly active. Prices of green jumbo, extra large and small are much higher, large and standard higher, and white slightly lower. 11-pound cartons bunched green jumbo are mostly 34.75-36.95, extra-large are mostly 34.75, large are mostly 28.75-30.75, standard are mostly 26.75-28.75, small are 24.00-25.00. White large 38.0038.75. Quality is generally good. Movement from Mexico crossings through Arizona, California, and Texas is expected to decrease. 11-pound cartons/crates bunched large are 34.75-36.75, the standard is 28.75-32.75. Prices represent few spot market sales as some shippers have finished for the season in this district.

Avocado
Movement from Mexico's crossings through Texas is expected to remain about the same. Trading was active early and moderate later. Prices of conventional 36s, 48s, and 70s are lower, 60s and 48s higher, others are generally unchanged. Supplies of 32s and 36s are hard to find with prices expected stronger as a result. Cartons 2-layers Hass 32s are mostly 76.25- 78.25, 36s are mostly 75.25-77.25, 40s are mostly 72.25-74.25, 48s are mostly 52.25-54.25, 60s are mostly 40.25-41.25, 70s are mostly 23.25-25.25, and 84s are mostly 19.25-20.25; organic 48s are mostly 67.25-68.25, 60s are mostly 42.25-45.25, and 70s are mostly 36.25-38.25.

Green bell pepper
Movement from Mexico crossings through Nogales, Arizona is expected to increase seasonally. Trading is active at higher prices. Current supplies are light with active demand. Cooler temperatures have slowed production and crossings. 1 1/9-bushel cartons jumbo and extra-large are mostly 32.95-34.95, large are mostly 28.9530.95, medium are mostly 22.95. Quality is generally good. Movement from Coachella Valley, California is expected to increase seasonally. Trading is moderate with good demand. Prices are generally unchanged and transportation is adequate for this week, but availability is expected to decrease later in the month. 1 1/9-bushel cartons extra-large are mostly 30.95-32.95, and large are mostly 28.95-30.95. Quality is generally good. Movement from South Georgia is expected to decrease seasonally. Trading is moderate and the last FOB price report has been issued. Movement from Central and South Florida is expected to increase. The price includes precooling and palletizing. Current supplies of 1 1/9-bushel cartons are in too few hands to establish a market.
