Until 20 December, the Bernardi company will harvest its own fennel, cultivated in Romagna, Italy. Following this, it will continue to source the product from its partner farmers, situated in other regions of Italy. "We are in the middle of the fennel season," says sales manager Christopher Bernardi. "The quality is high at the moment. We have about ten days left here in Rimini and then we'll start harvesting again in the spring, in March."
Bernardi is investing significantly in growing its own fennel to help shorten the supply chain. "We grow 50 hectares of fennel during the season, and the increase is also due to growing exports. The bulk product is the most popular, but the 2.5 kg boxes are also increasingly in demand. There is also a good market for two-piece trays."

In addition to fennel, Bernardi is also in the midst of the marketing of brassicas. "We have plenty of cabbage, savoy cabbage, white cauliflower, broccoli, and black cabbage, to name but a few. Depending on the customer's needs, we can prepare any type of packaging."

"The year 2025 will see a wealth of innovations. Cultivation of courgettes under glass is underway and will be available from mid-April. Having our own cultivation will make it easier for us to plan with our customers. We are also aiming to grow aubergines in 2025. Both courgettes and aubergines will be zero residues."

Regarding market developments, Bernardi says: "After a favorable period in the summer months, the autumn weather was particularly adverse, resulting in a lack of product availability. We'll have to wait and see if this situation will reverse as of January."
